We begin our excursion by taking a private land transport to go to the upper part of San Cristobal Island. The lagoon is located 19 kilometres from the port (approximately 30 minutes by car).
Without a doubt, we will visit one of the most peculiar landscapes of the Island called Junco Lagoon. It is an inactive volcano located in the upper part of the island whose crater has a very striking freshwater lagoon surrounded by beautiful vegetation and various native/endemic birds of the place.
This lagoon has a surface area of 60,000 m2, a volume of 360,000 m3 (equivalent to 9 million gallons of water), a diameter of 270 meters and its maximum depth is 6 meters. This beautiful lagoon, fed only with rainwater, in dry weather decreases up to 1 meter and when heavy rains occur, its level increases until it overflows, forming streams around it.
From here, we can enjoy a beautiful view and at the same time observe the entire geographical dimension of the island, truly an incomparable landscape in the Galapagos Islands.
