We will begin our visit at the Charles Darwin Research Station, an entity whose mission is to help conserve the environment and biodiversity of the Galapagos Archipelago. Here we are going to visit the tortoises breeding center to observe the different types of turtle species from different islands that are found there and reproduce in captivity under the care and protection of the Galapagos National Park.
We will also learn the story of LONELY GEORGE (the only survivor of Pinta Island) who probably lived more than 100 years.
Without a doubt, Lonesome George became an emblematic species for Galapagos and the world. He died in June 2012 of natural causes, for such reason, it got embalmed and is now exhibited as part of the new interpretive trail of the Galapagos National Park called “Tortoise´s road”.
