DAY BY DAY (overview)

DAY 1

ARRIVAL + HIGHLAND TOUR

Upon arrival in the Galapagos Islands, one of our representatives will cordially receive you. From there we will go to the Itabaca channel to take our private transport and arrive at our destination called “El Chato” (located in the upper part of Santa Cruz Island). In this place, we will observe the giant tortoises in free areas (in their lagoons and natural trails).

We will also observe the Lava Tunnels, these are hollow rocks type caverns or caves in which we can take a walk inside it and learn a little more about the geological and natural formation of these wonderful Galapagos Islands.

After this spectacular excursion in the upper part, we will go to the hotel located in the city of Puerto Ayora.

  • At 18:30 pm, we will carry out the equipment check for our dives in the following days.

DAY 2

DAPHNE DIVE

Daphne is located north of Santa Cruz Island. An extinct volcano invites us to observe the majestic volcanic walls of the island that fall vertically to the sea. Upon reaching Daphne, around this Islet we can observe some coastal birds that are within their natural areas, such as blue-footed boobies, nazca boobies, marine iguanas, and flying over we will see the frigate birds, possibly the tropical bird and swallow-tailed gulls.

This site has several diving points; one of them is the platform that includes a small cave located about 5 meters deep where we can find white-tip sharks and sea turtles. During the tour, you can go through a pinnacle at 18 meters deep where there are usually colourful fish, giant mantas, turtles and on a good day we can see the tiger shark.

Continuing with our underwater adventure it is common to find schools of Salemas in very large quantities, these are 10cm long fish endemic to Galapagos and are the preferred food of seabirds and some sharks that live there, without a doubt this will be a fascinating experience impossible to forget.

DAY 3

GORDON ROCKS DIVE

It is one of the most recognized sites in Galapagos since the most popular species of the islands are found in its waters, the well-known hammerhead shark, which together with a great variety of species typical of the place such as manta rays, turtles, golden rays, barracudas , eagle rays and various schools of fish make this place unique and incomparable. These rocks come from an ancient crater formed by three pinnacles that rise above the surface of the sea giving it an unparalleled style. Without a doubt, it has an excellent combination of its volcanic formation landscapes and its interesting marine life.

After the first dive, we will have some time to hydrate and prepare for a second dive. Due to the presence of current, we recommend Gordon Rocks for intermediate and advanced level divers. It is essential to emphasize that passengers who have little experience will dive on South Plazas Island.

It is very important that the divers (passengers) always stay together with the diving group and thus enjoy this aquatic paradise as safely as possible.

DAY 4

BARTOLOME DIVE

Bartolome is Located on the east side of the island of Santiago, a small island where we see the famous pinnacle rock of Bartolome, which is approximately 90 minutes away from the Itabaca Channel.

Bartolome offers a beautiful sub-aquatic landscape in the form of terraces that descend up to 30 meters before reaching a sandy bottom at 40 meters. Soft black coral surrounds this area and is a great place to find Pacific Seahorses; we could also spot black and white tip reef sharks, green sea turtles and large moray eels as well as octopuses. Barracudas and other reef fish.

This dive site has a moderate current type; it is a platform about 10 meters (33 feet) deep where there is enough variety of reef fish. We also find at the edge of this platform a submarine canyon 15 meters (50 feet) deep where pelagic species are occasionally found.

Bartolome is a great place for beginner and expert divers.

DAY 5

TORTUGA BAY VISIT (Kayak included) + FREE AFTERNOON

After breakfast, at 08:30 am we will visit one of the largest and most beautiful beaches in Galapagos named Tortuga Bay. Its white sand and its great view that allows us to enjoy its unique beauty is what characterizes it. It is located 45 minutes (approx. 2 kilometres) on foot from Puerto Ayora, it will be a great walk to it through its path made of cobblestones and its beautiful nature along it.

Here we will be able to enjoy two different environments, upon arrival we will observe an extensive/large bay ideal for surfing (excellent wave area for this activity) and the calm beach that is at the end of the large beach and is an excellent bay for recreational activities such as hike, swim, snorkel or just rest from the sand.

From there you can also see marine iguanas, pelicans and on a good day, we will also see baby Galapagos sharks near the beach. On this day you can use the Kayak, (option included from Tortuga Bay)

A considerable number of nesting sea turtles could be observed from the beach.

After our activities, at 12:30 pm we will return to the hotel to have our respective lunch (1:00 pm).

After lunch, we will have the rest of the afternoon as a free time to walk, take photos or go shopping.

DAY 6

THE TWINS (optional) + TRANFER TO THE AIRPORT

After breakfast, in our last excursion before flight, we will visit The Twins (Los Gemelos in Spanish). These are two gigantic inactive craters located under the earth’s surface in the shape of (inverted) cones and formed by a series of volcanic eruptions. Here we can take photos and enjoy this site surrounded by a beautiful Scalesia forest (endemic plant of the place).

We will also observe birds such as the Galapagos Finches and the Vermilion Flycatcher, which give life and colour to this beautiful landscape.

Therefore, we continue with our trip to Baltra Airport to take our respective flight to continental Ecuador.

ALTERNATIVE OPTION FOR 2 DAYS

We designed this alternative option for those people who, in addition to Diving, wish to enjoy other excellent options in the Islands. It consists of changing 2 days of the established itinerary with a different option instead of diving such as snorkeling. The possible days of changes are the 4th and 5th day with the option of Isabela Island for 2 days – 1 night, as it is in the details below.

ISABELA ISLAND – TUNNELS TRIP

In the morning (07:00 am), we leave to Isabela, with approximately 2 hours of navigation. Upon arrival in Puerto Villamil we will have the transfer to the hotel and the check-in respectively.

At 11:00 am, we start The Tunnels trip, one of the best places in Isabela to snorkel / swim, thanks to its transparent waters and its great variety of aquatic species. It is named after tunnels due to the volcanic lava formations in the form of arches or bridges over the water, thus forming tunnels under it, which make this landscape unique in Galapagos.

On our navigation from Isabela to the Tunnels, we will visit Roca Unión, where we will be able to observe different species of birds such as Blue-footed Boobies, Masked Boobies, Terns and Pelicans. Continuing with our navigation, we will arrive at the tunnels where we will take a walk to enjoy and be able to photograph these spectacular volcanic lava formations and their vegetation full of cacti, which complement this beautiful landscape.

We will also do two times of wonderful snorkeling inside the lagoons to live one of the greatest sensations and experiences sharing this marine aquarium together with the Giant Sea Turtles, Whitetip Sharks, Eagle Rays, Seahorses and Galapagos Penguins.

You can also enjoy a spectacular landscape full of vegetation typical of the place in which birds such as the Galapagos finches and the Vermilion Flycatcher.
