ARRIVAL + CHARLES DARWIN STATION
Upon your arrival in the Galapagos Islands, one of our representatives will cordially receive you at Baltra airport. From there we will go to the Itabaca channel to take our private transport and arrive at our hotel located in the city of Puerto Ayora.
CHARLES DARWIN STATION
After we get our accommodation and have lunch, we will begin our visit at the Charles Darwin Research Station, an entity whose mission is to help conserve the environment and biodiversity of the Galapagos Archipelago. Here we are going to visit the Tortoises Breeding Center to observe the different types of turtle species from different islands that are found there and reproduce in captivity under care and protection of the Galapagos National Park.
We´ll also learn about the story of LONESOME GEORGE (the only survivor of Pinta Island) who probably lived more than 100 years.
Without a doubt, Lonesome George became an emblematic species for Galapagos and the world. He died in June 2012 of natural causes, for such reason, it got embalmed and is now exhibited as part of the new interpretive trail of the Galapagos National Park called “Tortoise´s road”.
NORTH SEYMOUR DIVE
Seymour is one of the most recommended places to carry out this special diving activity because it is a shallow area (15m – 18m deep), it does not have strong currents and its waters contain the best underwater activity of the islands.
This island has a sandy bottom and some types of small underwater caves where white tip sharks stay. We will also be able to observe colonies of garden eels, pan rays, sea turtles, sea lions, Galapagos sharks and schools of colourful fish. We will have two dives. The dives are taking place in two different and very important points of the island that will guarantee one of the best experiences lived in the Galapagos Islands.
Seymour is ideal for all levels of scuba divers, whether they are experienced, inexperienced or inexperienced (with or without certificates) as there is no hassle involved in this special diving activity.
BARTOLOME DIVE
Bartolome is Located on the east side of the island of Santiago, a small island where we see the famous pinnacle rock of Bartolome, which is approximately 90 minutes away from the Itabaca Channel.
Bartolome offers a beautiful sub-aquatic landscape in the form of terraces that descend up to 30 meters before reaching a sandy bottom at 40 meters. Soft black coral surrounds this area and is a great place to find Pacific Seahorses; we could also spot black and white tip reef sharks, green sea turtles and large moray eels as well as octopuses. Barracudas and other reef fish.
This dive site has a moderate current type; it is a platform about 10 meters (33 feet) deep where there is enough variety of reef fish. We also find at the edge of this platform a submarine canyon 15 meters (50 feet) deep where pelagic species are occasionally found.
Bartolome is a great place for beginner and expert divers.
HIGHLAND TOUR + FERRY TO SAN CRISTOBAL + LA LOBERIA
After breakfast (09:00 am), we will start our trip by land until we reach our destination called “El Chato“, located in the upper part of Santa Cruz Island. Upon arrival at the site, we will have the opportunity to observe the emblematic species of the Galapagos Islands, the giant land tortoises. These are found in free areas, such as lagoons, trails and in the beautiful natural landscape of the Upper Part.
We will also explore the lava tunnels. These are hollow rocks type caverns or caves, which allow us to take a walk inside them and take pictures of this beautiful and unique volcanic formation. In addition, we will learn a little more about the geological and natural formation of these wonderful Galapagos Islands.
Finally we will know The Twins (Los Gemelos in Spanish) these are two gigantic inactive craters located under the earth’s surface in the form of cones (sunken) and formed by a series of volcanic eruptions. Here we can take photos and enjoy this site surrounded by a beautiful Scalesia forest (endemic plant of the place). We will also observe birds such as Galapagos finches and the Vermilion Flycatcher, which give life to this beautiful landscape.
After this special excursion, we will return to Puerto Ayora.
Once at the island, we will get to our accommodation and start our visit to La Loberia.
TOUR LA LOBERIA
After our accommodation and lunch, we will visit a beautiful place called La Lobería, well known for having several families of Sea Lions in free areas along its bay, resting from the sand or swimming in their natural habitat.
We will also observe vegetation typical of the area and the beautiful view from its bay, which makes this a beautiful coastal landscape.
We will have some snorkeling time so we can have the opportunity to see the marine iguanas and baby sea lions.
After this activity, we’ll return to our hotel.
KICKER ROCK DIVE + FERRY TO SANTA CRUZ
We start our tour from San Cristobal Island taking a boat (yacht) to reach Kicker Rock Islet, which is approximately 45 minutes away by boat.
Kicker Rock is an islet located in the middle of the ocean formed by two giant rocks divided by a water cannel. From the south, it looks like a sleeping lion, hence the Spanish name, and from the other side the shape resembles a boot, hence the name “Kicker Rock”. These rocks are divided by a very special water canal, which serves as a place of retreat and cleaning area for ocean / giant animals. Amongst them, you will find the Hammerhead Shark, a well-known species and icon of the islet.
. Among these is the Hammerhead Shark, a well-known species and icon of the islet.
Upon reaching this place, we could observe several coastal birds such as the tropical bird, blue-footed boobies and pelicans that are part of this natural area. Immediately we will prepare ourselves to live an incredible experience in our two dives accompanied by hammerhead sharks, Black Tip sharks, Galapagos sharks, Eagle rays, Golden rays, sea turtles, sea lions and colourful fish, which complement this beautiful underwater landscape.
At the end, we will disembark on a beautiful beach to enjoy a beautiful coastal landscape with free time to carry out the activity that we like the most, walking, photography, swimming or resting from the sand.
GORDON ROCKS DIVE
It is one of the most recognized sites in Galapagos since the most popular species of the islands are found in its waters, the well-known hammerhead shark, which together with a great variety of species typical of the place such as manta rays, turtles, golden rays, barracudas , eagle rays and various schools of fish make this place unique and incomparable. These rocks come from an ancient crater formed by three pinnacles that rise above the surface of the sea giving it an unparalleled style. Without a doubt, it has an excellent combination of its volcanic formation landscapes and its interesting marine life.
After the first dive, we will have some time to hydrate and prepare for the second dive. Due to the presence of current, we recommend Gordon Rock for intermediate and advanced level divers. It is essential to emphasize that passengers who have little experience will dive on South Plazas Island.
It is very important that the divers (passengers) always stay together with the diving group and thus enjoy this aquatic paradise as safely as possible.
SOUTH PLAZAS ISLAND TOUR / OPTIONAL – FLOREANA ISLAND
We will start our journey to South Plazas Island where we will hike within the place to see its main attraction. These are the three types of different species of iguanas that inhabit the site: the land iguana, the marine iguana and the hybrid iguana, a unique species that is born by the mixture (reproduction) of the terrestrial iguana with the marine one.
This Island has a very interesting and unique landscape due to its very colourful vegetation formed by terrestrial algae and the Opuntia Cactus, under whose shade the land iguanas that feed on fallen fruits live. We will also enjoy a spectacular view from its cliff where we will see a large colony of swallow-tailed gulls, lava gulls and Nazca boobies, which harmonize this natural area.
Without a doubt, we will have an excellent welcome and farewell when visiting this island, since in the landing area we will find one of the largest colonies of sea lions in Galapagos.
We will also visit Carrion Point for some excellent snorkeling time in the calm waters of this area. Here we can see colourful fish, manta rays and white tip sharks, which are endemic to this site.
